An MGB GT V8, but with 3.9l of displacement rather than the usual 3.5l. This isn’t an RV8 as you can probably tell, but a bored out 3.5l with high lift camshafts and flat topped pistons.
This car was once just a rotting shell, and after being restored by its owner is now worth over £25k. Jimmy Little Legs reckons it puts out ‘around 250’. It’s in for a re-seat of the rear hatch as exhaust fumes were getting in, and some front end suspension work because its nose ‘rides a little high’. I bet it’s still a blast to drive.
The best MG interior I’ve ever seen. Full leather and chrome.

Heat riser, looks like. From the exhaust manifold. Improves cold starting.

That’s near identical to one I saw at... I think Housesteads along Hadrian’s Wall. Might even be the same one.

Quite likely. It’s from this area, only 20 miles to the North.

Two letters that no one ever wants to see on the top of their engine.

It’s not like MG made the engine. It’s a failed Buick design made by Rover! wait that’s worse isnt it

You’ve forgotten about the Rover 25/45/75 and their MG counterparts. Particularly the ZT-T 260:
4.7l V8 RWD is definitely better than the standard Rover 75 estate with a 1.8 four-pot under the bonnet driving just the front wheels.

Wow SU’s on a V8, that would take some wizidary to make work, or maybe they just don’t work that well.

I’m picturing the work day where that happened.
“What are we going to put in this? We don’t have any engines!”
“It’s okay! GM have one that they don’t want that they said we could use.”
“Well that’s nice of them. Seems a pity to just throw away a perfectly good engine. Pints?”
“Pints”

I’ve been told that one of the encouragements for the Buick 215 purchase in general and for the Range Rover in specific was a Series II that had had one swapped in that a UK representative got to see. So, actually not that far from what happened.
“
Rather neat, this. What’d you say it has?”
“Buick. Only made these for one year.”
“Cor, really? They didn’t want it here?”
etc.

SU HIF’s were standard on the 3.5 v8 (I beleive), not sure about the factory iterations of the 3.9.

I have always wanted to see an MBG RV8-GT... a GT based around the RV8 upgrades to the roadster version, and a 4.0L TVR-tuned V8, backed by a modern overdriven 5-speed and rear axle ratio.
